Understanding Psalm 23:1

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

Psalm 23:1 NKJV

This one little sentence says so much if you just meditate and understand.  When you meditate you are meditating on Jesus in this sentence.  The Lord,” meaning Jesus; my shepherd,” meaning he is the one that watches over you, protects you and brings you were you need to be; “I shall not want,” means that when you become Jesus’ lamb and live by his guidance then you shall never want for anything.  A lot of information out of this little sentence, huh?  So by meditating just on this sentence alone you are learning to understand that you give your problems to God through Jesus and God will watch over you and direct you even if you feel it should be happening differently.  Yes, God will put you and your life where it needs to be, where it is best for you.  You have to trust him and rely on him just like the lambs rely on the shepherds to protect and guide them.  You will not want any longer because God will provide.  Again, let us repeat and understand:

 “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.”

This pertains to work, food, clothing, housing, health, finances and so much more.  It pertains to life and happiness and recreation and just plain ole fun.  “I shall not want” because my Lord” will provide.  All I have to do is listen and obey.  Not so hard to do.

Here is the rest of Psalm 23; my favorite Psalm:

The Lord the Shepherd of His People

A Psalm of David.

1 “The Lord is my shepherd;
I shall not want.
He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.
He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;
For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil;
My cup runs over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life;
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord
Forever.”

In Jesus name I pray – Amen <3
